“Nubia 1070 B€E (Nsaa)”
Medium: Abstract hand drawn layered collage works on paper with marker & African Kente cloth Size: 16" x 16"
Nubia 1070 B€E (Nsaa) is a depiction of the era of the Kingdom of Kush. During the Kush period, the ruling dynasty maintained power through military strength and control over trade routes, with a strong emphasis on Egyptian-style royal ideology. The core concepts of Egyptian culture are: Honor, Loyalty, Communitarianism, Education, Modesty and Pride, and black culture and identity in the future should be an evolving reflection of Egyptian culture. The piece is constructed in the shape of the African Adinkra Nsaa which is a symbol of excellence, genuineness, authenticity. Authentic African Kente cloth was used as a frame border for the piece because Kente cloth is an aesthetic design intended as communication. The colors of the cloth each hold symbolism: gold = serenity, red = passion, green = renewal & black = union with ancestors/spiritual awareness.
